چکیده

The Booster synchrotron at Fermilab employs eighteen 37–53 MHz ferrite-tuned double-gap coaxial radiofrequency cavities for acceleration of protons from 400 MeV to 8 GeV. The cavities have an aperture of 2.25 inches and operate at 55 kV per cavity. Future high duty factor operation of the Booster will be problematic due to unavoidable beam loss at the cavities resulting in excessive activation. The power amplifiers, high maintenance items, are mounted directly to the cavities in the tunnel. A proposed replacement for the Booster, the Proton Driver, will utilize the Booster radiofrequency cavities and requires not only a larger aperture, but also higher voltage. A research and development program is underway at Fermilab to modify the Booster cavities to provide a 5-inch aperture and a 20% voltage increase. A prototype has been constructed and high power tests have been completed. The cavity design and test results will be presented.

Rf Parameter Curves for a Proton Driver Synchrotron

High average beam power proton synchrotrons in the medium energy range are under consideration at several laboratories for intense and specialized secondary particle sources like muon colliders and ν factories. A 12 – 16 GeV machine with a 15 Hz cycle and 3 · 10 p/pulse capability called the Proton Driver (PD) has been studied as a replacement for the Fermilab Booster and as a base for future f...

The New Low Frequency Accelerating Systems for the Cern Ps Booster

A set of four, ferrite-loaded, low-frequency RF cavities equipped with local RF feedback has been built and installed in the CERN PS Booster rings. Together with the modified existing RF systems they now serve for acceleration as well as RF gymnastics of protons and heavy ions up to the highest beam intensities. The systems specifications with a frequency range of about 0.6 to 1.8 MHz and a nom...

Spear3 Booster Rf System Upgrade: Performance Requirements and Evaluation of Resources*

The SPEAR2 accelerator system originally had 3 RF stations (2 for storage ring, 1 Booster) operating at 358.5 MHz. SPEAR3 now operates at 476.3 MHz with the PEPII type RF system, while the Booster RF frequency remains unchanged. For top-off operation, the Booster injects single 3.0 GeV electron bunches into SPEAR3 at 10 Hz every 5 minutes to replenish lost charge. Due to the frequency mismatch ...

Experimental Study on Using Uniform Tuned Liquid Column Damper for Structural Control of Buildings Resting on Loose Soil

In this study, through series of shaking table tests and statistical analysis, the efficiency of Uniform Tuned Liquid Column Damper (UTLCD) in structures resting on loose soils, considering soil-structure interaction was investigated. The soil beneath the structure is loose sandy soil. The Laminar Shear Box (LSB) as a soil container was adopted and the scaled form of the prototype structure nam...
